Aeroflot and Transaero the main carriers targeted
Ukraine has banned Russian airlines, including state carrier Aeroflot, from flying to Ukraine.
Ukrainian PM Arseniy Yatsenyuk said military cargo flights were also barred.
"Now we are taking the decision to ban the flights of Russian airlines, first of all, of the company Aeroflot, to Ukraine and also to ban the transit flights of Russian airlines through the territory of Ukraine in case such transit flights carry military cargoes, cargoes a of double use or Russian military personnel," Yatsenyuk told ministers during a government session.
Last week Ukraine imposed restrictions on over 90 companies or groups, mostly from Russia, and on 900 individuals, after pro-Russian separatists who have seized parts of Ukraine set a date for what Kyiv says are "illegal elections".
"It means stopping flights by Aeroflot to Ukraine. Please inform the Russian side about this. (It means) stopping flights by Transaero to Ukraine. Russian planes with the Russian tricolour have no business in Ukrainian airports," Yatsenyuk added.

The sanctions can only come into force once they are approved by Ukraine's security council and signed into law by the president.
Ukraine's aviation authorities say that the ban will come into force on October 25th.
Ukraine has not said exactly what sort of penalties last week's sanctions impose on the individuals and companies on the list, which include Russian airline Aeroflot, Gazprombank and Bank of Moscow.
