The highest "red" level of alert in Almaty to be replaced by moderate "yellow"
Kazakh police eventually finished the anti-terrorist operation in the former capital of Almaty in the southern part of the country.
Now the red - the highest - level of alert is replaced by the so called moderate yellow level. City administration has undertaken unprecedented security measures after the shooting in the city centre.
A 27-year-old armed criminal, allegedly previously involved in a human killing, attacked a police station. According to the Kazakh Ministry of Internal Affairs, four police officers were killed before the bandit was finally captured. One civil citizen was shot to death, as the attacker attempted to steal his car.
Except for the detained man, another one was arrested accused of being involved in the law-breaking activity, that is, shooting the first police officer. The investigation is underway.
