Criminal group of illegal amber diggers caught in Rivne region

Before being arrested the miners downed two police observation drones

A group of amber diggers was detained in Rivne region in western Ukraine. The illegal miners were noticed in Rokytnivsky district through police drone observation. Apart from the diggers themselves, the police officers saw the heavy equipment used for extracting precious jewels from beneath the earth.

The diggers managed to down two drones from shooting rifles. However, the third one detected the roundabouts of the criminals. Later the guardsmen arrived at the place aiming to detain the illegal miners. While arresting, the diggers resisted desperately. The police officers found and confiscated illegal weapons and military tractor.

Serhiy Knyazev, Head of Rivne national police: "We have previously determined it is impossible to reach the so-called mines without special transport means. Therefore, we concluded they possess a kind of demilitarized war equipment to travel around the swampy territories. On having conducted the air patrol, we lost two drones."
