Firecrackers sound caused chaos, more than 40 people injured

A noise that sounded like gunfire led to panic at the major holiday destination on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea - Juan-les-Pins - as people rushed to flee assuming it to be a terror attack.

Police say fireworks are believed to have been thrown from a moving vehicle but they emphasize it was not a terrorist attack.

The ill-fated joke caused injuries among people, who were trying to run through streets overturning tables and chairs of restaurants terraces.

45 people are reported to have been injured in the Sunday incident.

On July 14th, the attacker drove his truck into the crowd during Bastille Day celebrations in the southern French city of Nice, killing 85 people and injuring hundreds more.
