A lawyer for one of the Russian servicemen who are on trial in Ukraine has been found dead.

Yuriy Hrabovskiy was representing Alexander Alexandrov, who along with another Russian citizen Yevgeny Yerofeyev was captured last year in the militant-occupied eastern Ukraine. The men admitted they were Russian officers but Moscow said they had resigned from active duty.

The Ukrainian National Bar Association said in a statement Friday that Hrabovskiy, who went missing on March 5, was found murdered in Cherkasy region. The group said suspects in the lawyer's murder have been detained.

Hearings in the trial of the two Russians had been adjourned earlier this month when Hrabovskiy did not show up in court.

On March 20 the Ukrainian authorities said they have detained a man suspected of involvement in the disappearance of the lawyer. The suspect reportedly confessed that lawyer Yuriy Hrabovskiy's kidnapping had been organized by Russia's Federal Security Service.
