UPDATE: Suspected police killer captured. He was found in local hospital with the stomach wound
UPDATE: The police officer, who had been injured during the attack, died in Dnipro city hospital, according to the Interior Ministry press officer, Yaroslav Trakalo.
A driver, who was stopped by Dnipro police patrol because of a traffic violation, killed one officer and injured the other, as the Interior Ministry reports.
The incident took place on September 25, at 10 a.m., nearby the city railway station.
The driver fired several bullets at police officers and then disappeared from the crime scene, also stealing a spare magazine from the officers.
A "Siren" operation plan to catch the suspect was announced.
The criminal's identity has been quickly defined by police using the CCTV footage from around the crime site. His name has been announced as Oleksandr Puhachov, 33 years old, originating from the city of Torez, Donetsk region, although born in the city of Michurinsk, Tambov region of Russia.
Since 2015, Oleksandr Puhachyov has been on the wanted list by Ukraine's law enforcement agencies for some time. He has previous offences of unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping, sex assault and the establishment of a criminal organization.
"We've been looking for this gunman for more than a year. With the start of the Anti-Terrorist Operation in eastern Ukraine, he moved from the occupied territories to Ukraine's government controlled area. police departments from 5 regions have been involved in order to catch the suspect", the First Deputy Head of Ukraine's National Police, Vadym Troyan, stated.
