Food, medicine and fuel were supplied directly to militants
Ukrainian law enforcement officers discovered and blocked the largest supply channel funneling food, fuel and lubricants, medical supplies and other goods to the militant-held territories in the Donetsk region (eastern Ukraine).
This was reported by the first deputy head of Ukraine's State Fiscal Service Sergei Bilan.
Ukraine's tax police in cooperation with security forces (the SBU) and military carried out the unprecedented special operation in the "grey zone" (buffer zone), he wrote on Twitter.
He said that the so-called Defence Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (the militant republic) was among 'major customers'.
"This means that goods were supplied directly to militants", said Bilan.
He said, the operation involved more than 100 people, no casualties were reported.
Ukrainian officials searched the transhipment points and detained vehicles carrying goods. Investigation is under way.
"It was quite a risky raid since militant sabotage and reconnaissance groups as well as snipers are very active in this village, moreover the militant checkpoint guards the entrance", said Bilan.
As reported earlier, that the State Fiscal Service launched 20 mobile teams to combat smuggling and corruption.
