Ukrainian customs detain 19 people at a border with Slovakia

The group faces deportation and fines, their smuggler could potentially get seven years in prison

Customs officials in the western part of Ukraine have detained a record number of illegals. Authorities apprehended 19 people who attempted to cross the country's border with Slovakia.

Among the detainees are citizens of Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan and even Ukraine. All of the foreigners are currently in a detention centre in a border-town of Chop.

Officials say after the verdict, they will most likely be faced with a fine and a deportation order.

The Ukrainian that was part of the group faces human smuggling charges which carry up to seven years in prison.
