Ukrainian detained in Hungary for smuggling dozens of Asian migrants

33 people were found in cargo minibus driven by Ukrainian citizen

Hungarian police detained a Ukrainian driver after 33 illegal migrants were found in his cargo minibus. The passengers had identity documents, but no Schengen visas.

According to Mukachevo.net the incident took place on August 8 near the town of Tolna, not far from the Serbian border.

The migrants were taken to the nearby police station where they were given water and food. There are citizens of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan among them, who have already applied for asylum.

The 55-year-old Ukrainian driver is in police custody. He is suspected of human smuggling.
