Ukrainian journalist charged with espionage in Russia

Roman Sushchenko was detained in Moscow on September 30

Russian authorities have officially charged with espionage Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko, his lawyer Mark Feygin told Russian TASS news agency on Friday.

A Moscow court had earlier authorized Sushchenko's detention until November 30.

Sushchenko, a correspondent of the Ukrinform news agency, was detained in Russian capital on September 30 on suspicion of collecting classified information about Russian army.

The journalist, who came to Moscow to visit his relatives, pleaded not guilty.

Ukrainian consul has not been allowed to visit Sushchenko since he was arrested.

Feygin said on Twitter that he would be able to see his client on Monday, October 10.
