1+1 media and FilmUA production launch competition for young cinema artists

The winner is set to get money award for further development in the branch

War, love, humour, and little kittens are the main topics of short-length movies being presented at the competition named "DeKino" in Kyiv. The festival, aimed at encouraging the young plot writers and film makers show their works to the wide audience, is organized by 1+1 Media holding and film studio "FilmUA".

More than 200 works have been sent so far, as the contest continues. The rooms are overcrowded, for the young artists are eager to listen to their experienced trainers.

Numerous experts say the cinema art nowadays does not mean by default a lot of money and big screens. In the era of Internet and digital technologies the television and the web have intertwined toughly. Actually a webisode - a piece of video recorded for uploading to the web - is the most required format here. Numerous short-ranged clips are sent from all over Ukraine, Russia, the USA, Italy, Poland, Turkey, and even Sudan.

Svitlana Paveletska, PR Director of 1+1 Media: "This means Ukraine is considered as an outlet for the future talents. The artists are eager to unfold their creativity in Ukraine."

The majority of the movies are devoted to the war theme. However, nearly 5% of the works sent to the festival jury is about cats, whereas love was a key theme only in four of the videos presented. Media managers say it is a good sign, though calling the contestants to think more on a comedy genre.

Oleksandr Tkachenko, Director of 1+1 Media: "Comedy is the most required genre for the 1+1 TV channel, both for the spectators and the investors."

They add Ukraine is already rich in various film making technologies. What we lack though is creativity, therefore, the jury of the contest is eagerly looking for the talented scenario writers.

Everyone willing to participate in the competition may send the selected pieces until August 7th. The winner is set to get 50,000 hryvnias [USD 2,000].
