First ever family-friendly festival in Ukraine, Maker Faire, gathered more than 50 projects of Ukrainian scientists and craftsmen
Lviv hosted first ever festival, Lviv Mini Maker Faire, which gathered innovations and works in the fields of science, engineering, art, performance, and craft. An ecobot car, which is made of wood, an aircraft which can spend unlimited time in the air and Elvis Presley monument made of lard are the ones of the most extraordinary projects presented at the fair.
More than 50 innovative works were displayed at the festival; some of the showpieces are ready for production and some are still in the process of modification. All of the makers came to the event to show what they have made and share their knowledge.
Maker Faire is a family-friendly event which is open to people of all ages. It functions in the format Show & Tell - inventors and artists demonstrate their works and explain how they function and what meaning they have. The festival participants can also test the inventions.
Maker Faire was initially launched in the USA. Similar festivals often take place in various cities across the world, but in Ukraine, such fairs are only starting to gain popularity.
The festival aims to be a forward-looking event, which showcases makers who are exploring new forms and new technologies. Many makers don't get a chance to present their projects and the event can help them gain recognition. The festival served as a platform for a number of events such as an exhibition, workshops, lectures, a career fair and an art-labyrinth.
