U.N. demand Nadiya Savchenko must be released

Keeping Savchenko behind bars is against the Minsk agreements

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has insisted captured Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko must be released.

That's according to Volodymyr Yelchenko, Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations who said Ban Ki Moon assured him he would assist in the freeing of Savchenko.

Volodymyr Yelchenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the U.N.:"Russia's brutal violation of universal norms as well as Nadiya's PACE immunity is a clear signal to the international community on the inadmissibility of violating fundamental principles and norms by the country which is one of the UN Security Council permanent members."

The United States blame Russia of total disrespect of justice. Washington officials condemned Savchenko's sentence, stating her imprisonment strictly violates both the Minsk agreements and supreme law.
