One Ukrainian soldier killed, eight wounded in eastern Ukraine

Ukrainian military spokesman reports on casualties

One Ukrainian serviceman was killed and eight were injured over the past 24 hours as a result of armed hostilities in eastern Ukraine, according to Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko.

Although situation on the frontline is already tense, Donbas conflict zone saw a new escalation of fighting over the last day.

"One serviceman died in Zaytseve, three others were wounded there as well. Five servicemen were wounded in Avdiivka that still remains the hottest point of the frontline," Lysenko said.

Combined Russian-backed separatist forces mounted 77 attacks on Ukrainian army positions over the last day.
