Russian citizen asked for asylum in Ukraine

Six Russian citizens have requested the refugee status in Ukraine in the past two years

A Russian national has requested refugee status in Ukraine while undergoing a border control at the Novi Yarilovychi customs office, the UNIAN agency reports. 

A 45-year-old male citizen of Russia claimed he was suffering a criminal prosecution for his opposition activities and views in his homeland,  requesting political asylum in Ukraine, according to the Chernihiv border detachment's head Olexander Dudko.

This incident is the sixth case of requesting refugee status by the Russian nationals crossing the border with Ukraine in the past two years, the official claims.

After interrogation and filling the necessary documents, the person was directed to the State migration service in Chernihiv, where his request would be considered, the agency reports.
