Russian news agencies reported the Ukrainian pilot guilty before the final verdict was announced

Defence lawyers of Ukrainian military pilot Nadiya Savchenko say their client was not found guilty yet by the Russian court, despite widespread media reports.

It was initially reported that the judge had found her guilty, but journalists present at the court in Russia's Rostov region and Savchenko's legal representatives say a final verdict has not been delivered.

The sentence for the Ukrainian pilot is soon expected. She could face up to 23 years behind bars. Her lawyers have long maintained the charges against their client are fabricated. If likely found guilty, there are hopes she could be released using diplomatic channels.
