Two Ukrainian servicemen killed following enemy attack near Mariupol on June 14
Combined Russian-backed separatist forces recently suffered heavy casualties - 38 militants were killed and 48 more were wounded in the conflict zone during the last few days, Kyiv reported.
"Our intelligence confirms the deaths of 21 militants in the vicinity of Adviivka during June 10-13. 11 more died in combat near Donetsk and another six were killed in the area of Novotroitske village in the Donetsk region", Ukraine's military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said.
Ukrainian servicemen also destroyed numerous enemy vehicles and artillery systems, Lysenko added. Overall the separatists lost five tanks, five self-propelled artillery platforms and several armored personnel vehicles and trucks with communication hardware.
The deaths of the militants followed a recent flare-up in the military clashes in the Donbas warzone. The Russian-backed separatists continued to escalate the fighting along the whole contact line. The positions of the Ukrainian soldiers were shelled around 58 times in the past 24 hours.
According to Kyiv, the most intense shooting took place in the vicinity of Mariupol. Two Ukrainian soldiers were killed as their unit had to fight off the attack launched by the separatists. Lysenko informed, another seven Ukrainian soldiers were injured in the region.
The Russian-backed separatist forces have been intensifying the combat in Ukraine's east during the past several weeks. Experts say, in such a way Moscow wants to force Kyiv to accept its conditions for resolution of the conflict.
