Fighting in Donbas continues despite Normandy Four peace talks

Two Ukrainian soldiers were recently captured by the Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine. They were transported to the militants' stronghold Donetsk. This was reported by Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko.

"The soldiers were captured in the Donetsk regions. Ukraine is doing all it can to set them free", Lysenko said.

The news arrived amid the ongoing battles in the conflict region. The separatists attacked the positions of the Ukrainian servicemen 16 times in the past 24 hours. Although no soldiers died in the shooting, two people were wounded in the military clashes.

"Main site of fighting was in the Donetsk region, near Mariupol and Avdiivka. Enemy used mortars and heavy artillery", Lutsenko reported.

Official Kyiv said, the situation in the conflict region was relatively stable after the recent flare-up. On May 24 Ukraine reported of the highest death toll in a year. As a result of shelling seven Ukrainian soldiers died and nine got injures.
