Ceasefire violations continue in eastern Ukraine

The combined Russian-separatist forces opened fire on Ukrainian positions in Donbas, eastern Ukraine, 54 times in the past 24 hours, according to the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) headquarters.

In particular, 26 attacks were reported in the Mariupol sector, 23 in the Donetsk sector, and five in the Luhansk sector, the ATO HQ wrote on Facebook on Sunday, August 7.

The enemy repeatedly used 120mm and 82mm mortars in the Donetsk sector to shell the towns of Avdiyivka and Svitlodarsk, and the villages of Novoselivka and Novoselivka Druha.

Anti-tank grenade launchers were used to fire on the village of Pisky near the demolished Donetsk airport, and the Butivka coal mine. Large-caliber machine-guns were used near the village of Novhorodske.

"The enemy used small arms in the village of Zaitseve [near the militant-held town of Horlivka] to provoke Ukrainian troops. Infantry fighting vehicles, machine-guns and mortars of various calibers were engaged along the stretch of the front line between the town of Krasnohorivka and Zaitseve," the ATO HQ said.

"Ukrainian troops defending the town of Maryinka had to repel an act of provocation by the enemy's special forces unit in the early hours of Saturday. The Russian occupiers used mortars and infantry fighting vehicles to attack strongholds near Krasnohorivka and positions of the Ukrainian Marines in the village of Shyrokyne (near the Ukrainian-controlled strategic port city of Mariupol) in the latter half of the day. That sector was under enemy sniper fire too," the ATO HQ said.

The villages of Novozvanivka and Krymske in the Luhansk sector came under grenade fire, while the enemy opened mainly random fire on Ukrainian positions in the town of Popasna.
