Sister of Ukrainian pilot, illegally imprisoned in Russia, safely crosses Ukraine-Russia border
Vira Savchenko, the sister of Ukrainian pilot and MP Nadiya Savchenko, has returned to Ukraine.
Svyatoslav Tsegolko, the press secretary of Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko, reported about it on his Twitter
"Ukraine's Consul General in Rostov has just informed the President that Vira Savchenko crossed the border," he tweeted on Thursday.
Генконсул України в Ростові щойно повідомив Президента про те, що Віра Савченко перетнула український кордон.— Svyatoslav Tsegolko (@STsegolko) April 28, 2016
Vira Savchenko was detained at the Russia-Ukraine border late last night because of an alleged criminal case launched against her in Russia.
Luckily the Ukrainian consul in the region of Rostov-on-Don was able to keep her in the consular vehicle meaning that she was under Ukraine's diplomatic protection. After many hours of awaiting they were allowed to leave for the Ukrainian consulate in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don.
