Kremlin continues violating the Minsk protocol intensifying the armed conflict in Donbas region
Releasing Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko does not mean the sanctions against Russia might be lifted. This is according to the head of the Greens–European Free Alliance group in the European parliament Rebecca Harms.
The MEP claims freeing Nadiya from captivity is just a part of Minsk agreement. She insists other Ukrainian political prisoners are still kept in Russian jails, as well as Russian-backed separatist forces do not follow the ceasefire regime shelling the Ukrainian territories with heavy weapons.
"Sanctions is a good means of political and diplomatic pressure, since economic isolation has made Russia vulnerable. It is a must for the whole world community to force Kremlin back from eastern Ukraine and return the occupied Crimean peninsula under Ukrainian control," stresses Harms.
On having released Nadiya Savchenko, Rebecca Harms adds, the E.U. and the U.S. should keep an eye on other cases of Ukrainian citizens kept currently behind bars in Russia being accused of false crimes.
