Exclusive interviews with the soldiers who survived the confrontation with Russia's proxy forces
It's one of key moments in Ukraine's war with Russian-backed militants...
Known by Ukrainians as 'cyborgs' for their unwavering defence of the strategically located Donetsk International Airport, Ukrainian troops had controlled the airport facility since May 2014 until January 2015, despite non-stop attacks.
Ultimately, they were forced to withdraw after defending the airport for 242 days.
Many compare the airport siege to the Battle of Stalingrad. The standoff acquired a symbolic importance for both sides which is above and beyond its strategic value.
Now, in their own words, Ukrainian soldiers tell their story. Watch '5 Cyborgs' - exclusively on Ukraine Today.
