Eight Ukrainian soldiers wounded in eastern Ukraine in 24 hours

Russian-backed separatist forces shell Ukrainian positions 87 times in last day

Eight Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in eastern Ukraine as the situation on the front lines in Lugansk and Donetsk region remains tense.

"8 Ukrainian soldiers were wounded due to the intensive armed hostilities that have occurred during the last 24 hours in Donbas region. No casualties are reported. Three servicemen were wounded as a result of shelling, and five others - when one of our IFVs [infantry fighting vehicle] was blown up by a landmine," Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko informed during a briefing in Kyiv.

The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 87 times in the past 24 hours, according to the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). Ukrainian soldiers were forced to return fire on several occasion, using only small caliber weapons.
