Adel Al-Jubeir hopes withdrawal of Russian forces from Syria leads to political change
Saudi Arabia's foreign minister says he hopes the withdrawal of Russian forces from Syria will lead to political change in the Middle Eastern state. He rejects claims Riyadh and Moscow have struck a bargain involving Saudi energy policy and Russian foreign policy.
Adel Al-Jubeir, Saudi Foreign Minister: "I believe the Russian decision to withdraw part of its forces from Syria is a very positive step. It is our hope that it will contribute to an acceleration of the political process based on the Geneva 1 declaration and that it will compel the Assad regime to make the concessions necessary in order to bring about a political transition in Syria."
Adel Al-Jubeir, Saudi Foreign Minister: "It never ceases to amaze me what people speculate about. Our oil policy is very transparent, it is driven by market considerations, and the price of oil is determined by supply and demand. And now what we see is increased demand globally, we see a slight reduction in inventories and we believe this will have a positive impact on the price of oil going forward."
Adel Al-Jubeir, Saudi Foreign Minister: "I would say, as far as I know, and I believe I am in a position to know, there is no such thing."
