Baltic Course: Riga to host summit of mayors of E.U. capitals in 2017

Next Summit of E.U. Capital City Mayors  will take place in Latvia

Riga will host the next Summit of E.U. Capital City Mayors in 2017, the Riga City Council informs LETA.

The decision was made yesterday and supported by the mayors of Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Bratislava, Brussels, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Helsinki, Lisbon, Ljubljana, London, Luxembourg, Madrid, Paris, Prague, Riga, Rome, Tokyo, Stockholm, Tallinn, Valletta, Vienna, Vilnius, Warsaw and Zagreb, according to the Baltic Course.

The summit, which is currently being held in Amsterdam, has gathered the mayors of EU capitals to discuss various matters. Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs (Harmony) is also attending the meetings.

''In additional to discussing matters like employment, transportation, municipal services and other matters, which are the topics usually discussed at these meetings, we in Riga would like to also discuss innovations, information and technology in municipal administration as well as air quality. We also cannot ignore such important aspects as the migrant crisis and EU unity,'' Usakovs said at a press conference in Amsterdam.
