California senate adopts resolution to mark Ukraine's Independence Day

Document commends Ukrainian American citizens'contributions to cultural, economic, and political heritage of US

The California State Senate has adopted a resolution to mark Ukrainian Independence Day on August 24, 2016. That's according to a statement by Ukrainian Embassy in the US.

The resolution aims "to make special recognition of California's Ukrainian American citizens and thank them for their countless contributions to our nation's cultural, economic, and political heritage."

The document praises "the perseverance and endurance of the Ukrainian people in standing against hatred, tyranny, and aggression," adding "their commitment to freedom, liberty, and independence, are commendable."

The resolution calls upon the people of the state "to observe the month of August 2016 with appropriate ceremonies, programs, and activities."

On August 24, Ukraine will celebrate its 25th Independence Day.
