First direct assault of Russian proxies on Ukrainian positions since September truce came into effect
Three Ukrainian troops were killed in the Donbas conflict zone in the last 24 hours.
Oleksandr Motuzianyk, Ukraine's Defence Ministry spokesman for Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) issues, said two soldiers were killed in action near Stanytsia Luhanska, just outside Luhansk city, one more soldier died in a 122-mm artillery attack in Mariupol sector.
Commenting on severe losses suffered by the Ukrainian army despite the truce, Ukraine's presidential adviser Yuriy Biryukov specified that two soldiers were killed and five wounded, in a direct attack launched by an enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group.
One Ukrainian soldier went missing in the same attack, Biryukov added.
Besides that, on September 12, ten soldiers were reported wounded along the whole front line. They suffered from shrapnel wounds or trip mines.
In total, combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian positions in eastern Ukraine 35 times in the past 24 hours.
