Prague demands that self-proclaimed 'honorary consul' stop using the title

Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Bohuslav Sobotka has reassured that there will be no diplomatic missions of the self-proclaimed Donbas republics in Czechia, according to the Ukrainian government's media liaison office.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman informed his Czech counterpart, at a meeting on the sidelines of the 26th Economic Forum in Krynica-Zdroj, about Ukraine's concerns over the establishment of the so-called "honorary consulate" of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in the Czech city of Ostrava.

"In turn, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said that this office cannot be considered a diplomatic mission, and none of the so-called 'self-proclaimed republics' will open a diplomatic mission in the Czech Republic," the office said.

As earlier reported, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry sent a note to the Czech Embassy in Kyiv to protest the registration by municipal authorities in Ostrava, the capital of the Moravian-Silesian Region, of a so-called DPR representative center.

Meanwhile, a source at the Czech Foreign Ministry said the "DPR representative center" in Ostrava had received no accreditation from the Czech Foreign Ministry. It, therefore, has no diplomatic status and cannot be headed by an honorary consul.

The Czech Foreign Ministry also sent a letter to Nela Liskova, who calls herself an 'honorary consul,' demanding that she immediately stop using this title.
