Geneva Plus format should become basis for the process

The European Parliament supports Ukraine's initiative Geneva Plus and appeals to Russia to start negotiations on returning Crimea. This is according to the EP resolution adopted today.

Members of the European Parliament ask the Russian Federation to provide a permanent and free access to the peninsula to international institutions in order to observe the situation on human rights protection in Crimea.

Geneva Plus format provides room for the establishment of an international mechanism of negotiations to restore Ukrainian sovereignty over Crimea. The format is supposed to involve Ukraine, Russia, and the E.U.

The resolution urges Russia "to launch negotiations with Ukraine and other partners concerning de-occupation of Crimea, to lift trade and energy embargo as well as a state of emergency in Crimea".
