‘We need to get Ukraine and the Russians to go further in (military) disengagement ... to show sincerity', French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said ahead of the meeting, Reuters reports.

‘On the Ukraine reform side ... we need a detailed commitment on the status of Donbass and a calendar', Ayrault added.

Ukraine, in turn, has said that any elections are impossible until Russia fully leaves the region.

‘It all depends on Russia. I can't comprehend how any independent elections can be held while Russian army is still in Donbas', Poroshenko said during a joint briefing with the Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg.

Germany and Ukraine have already stated they don't expect much from the Normandy Four summit.
