Germany opposes returning Russia to G8 - Deutsche Welle

Russia suspended from G8 club for its Ukraine aggression

Germany does not support the idea of returning the G8 format with the participation of Russia, Deutsche Welle reports.

"The return to G8 format is not even on the agenda," one of the advisors of German Chancellor Angela Merkel is quoted as saying.

According to Deutsche Welle's source, Russia will not be reinstated as part of G8 club until the reasons for its exclusion are removed. The Russian President is no more invited to summits of the world leaders "as a response to Crimea annexation and aggression in Donbas."0

Next week Merkel is expected to attend G7 summit in Japan. The conflict between Ukraine and Russia will be one of the main subjects of discussions, including the Minsk agreement violations and the possibility of local elections on the militant-occupied territories.
