Ukraine's parliament speaker leads the run to replace PM Yatsenyuk

Volodymyr Groysman nominated for prime minister by the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko parliamentary faction

Ukraine's parliamentary speaker emerged as the frontrunner to replace unpopular Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk.

Members of the ruling coalition on Thursday discussed nominating 38-year-old Volodymyr Groysman, but stressed the appointment could only work if parties can agree on a new coalition deal.

Support for Yatsenyuk's government has plunged since he took power after the 2013/2014 Maidan protests with coalition infighting and corruption scandals hindering reforms demanded by Kyiv's Western backers.
