Students block entrance to their schools during a third weekly protest against labour reforms
High schoolers blocked the entrance to their schools in Paris on Thursday during a third weekly protest against proposed French labour reforms. The draft measures give more flexibility to employers to agree in-house deals with employees on working time. They also provide for less restrictive conditions for layoffs for economic reasons. Students say the measures will deny them the job stability enjoyed by previous generations.
Tassadith, French High School Student: "We think that it's a way to put young people at risk. And not only young people, but also all employees as a whole. What shocks me in particular is that these are measures taken by a leftist government."
Parliament will start discussing the bill on April 4, with both left-wing rebels and reformists seeking to modify it substantially. A final adoption is expected in July.
