US State Secretary Kerry praises Ukraine's efforts in Minsk accords implementation
Donbas political process has real prospects of success if all fighting subsides and overall security is established in eastern part of Ukraine, president Petro Poroshenko stressed at a joint presser with US Secretary of State John Kerry on July 7, in Kyiv.
"We Ukrainians are committed to the implementation of Minsk agreements, and consider them a roadmap for peaceful resolution of Donbas conflict. But we have been underlining that no efficient settlement is possible without steady and full security," Poroshenko stated.
He added that Ukraine and the United States share the view that Russia and Russian-backed militants are responsible ensuring security in Donbas.
Kerry, in his turn, commended Ukraine for significant efforts towards the Minsk implementation, and initiating the processes of decentralization and granting special status to Donbas.
But he added that "without real security in the Donbas, an end to the bloodshed on the contact line, the use of heavy weapons, the blockading the OSCE access, without that, Minsk is doomed to fail."
