Ukrainian military press service says soldiers had to fire back

Russian-backed separatist forces launched 79 attacks on Ukrainian army positions in the combat zone over the last 24 hours, military press centre of Ukraine reports.

"Over the last day, the militants initiated 79 attacks along the whole frontline. They used 82mm and 120mm mortars four times in the direction of Avdiivka, and three times in the direction of Zaitseve. There were also shellings near the mine of Butivka, and near the villages of Krasnohorivka, Pisky, Opytne, Berezove and Krymske," the report reads.

The press centre said Ukrainian positions were under attack near the village or Taramchuk, where the Russian-backed separatist forces used 122mm artillery.

"During this period, the Ukrainian troops had to fire back 18 times," the press center noted.
