ISIL claims car bomb which killed policeman in Russia's Dagestan

ISIL has claimed several blasts in the region

ISIL is claiming a blast in Russia's Dagestan region which killed one police officer and left two injured. Local authorities say two cars were destroyed but the exact nature of the explosive device is under investigation.

ISIL has in the past said it was behind violent attacks on security forces in the North Caucasus, the volatile mainly Muslim part of Russia where Dagestan is located.

The region last saw similar attacks on police in February. Some militants in Dagestan have sworn allegiance to Islamic State.
