Sergei Toropov appointed Russia's charge d'affaires in Ukraine

Sergei Toropov has been appointed as Russia's charge d'affaires in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry information and press department told TASS on Thursday.

He will temporarily replace Russia's Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov, who was relieved of his duties.

Russia's Foreign Ministry did not specify what post Toropov had held before.

Some Russian and Latvian media suppose, that Toropov is the same Russian diplomat, who at the beginning of 2008 was expelled from Latvia.

He served as a secretary of Russian Embassy responsible for the media relations and was kicked out for ‘actions inconsonant with his diplomatic status'.

But at that time, the name of the diplomat was not revealed, and there is no official confirmation that it was Toropov who was expelled.
