Latvia detects one more Russian warship near its borders

Russian military aircraft and ships we spotted near Latvian borders more than 270 times in 2015

One more Russian warship was spotted near Latvian borders on July 20.

Latvia's National Armed Forces reported on Twitter that this time it was ‘Boikiy' - a Steregushchy-class corvette of the Russian Navy. The vessel was detected at a 4.5 nautical mile distance from the border of Latvia.

Two days earlier the Russian tugboat Neptun was spotted at a similar distance from the country's border.

In early June, Latvia's Armed Forces also spotted a number Russian warships near the country's waters.

In total 270 incidents involving Russian military aircraft and ships approaching Latvian borders were recorded in 2015.

Latvia's National Armed Forces reported more than 140 provocative flights, as well as 130 cases of Russian submarines and ships close to Latvian territorial waters.
