Mass killer Breivik brings lawsuit against Norway for 'inhuman treatment'

Militant right-winger raised arm in Nazi salute in court

Mass killer Anders Behring Breivik is bringing a lawsuit against the Norwegian state.

He says his treatment in prison violates a ban on "inhuman and degrading treatment" under the European Convention on Human Rights.

Arriving for the first day of the hearing, Breivik raised his right arm in a Nazi salute. The militant right winger is appearing in public for the first time since his 2012 trial.

In prison he has a three-room cell with a television and a computer but no Internet access. He is allowed out into a yard for exercise. The state says the conditions are lawful. The lawsuit is being heard in the gym of the prison in southe rn Norway where Breivik is being held.
