Russia building up its military capabilities in Black Sea peninsula
Mejlis Chairman, Ukraine's MP, and President of the Crimean Tatar World Congress Refat Chubarov said Kremlin plans to set up a Crimean Tatar separate military unit to suppress the people's resistance against the Kremlin occupation.
He said that during a briefing "Crimea and Crimean Tatars: Consequences of the 1944 deportation and threats of the 2014 occupation. The role of Ukraine and the international community in protecting Crimean Tatars' undeniable rights".
"In order to bring our people down and confront their resistance against the Russian annexation, they (Kremlin-backed occupation authorities) carry out some specific measures they have already implemented in the Caucasus. They strive to recruit our young men, and send them to special institutions to be trained and taught how to come out against their own people", said Chubarov.
According to Chubarov, the selected young men were sent onto the Russian mainland.
"In order to cheat parents who do not want their children to serve in the Russian army (which is obligatory in the occupied Crimea), Kremlin-backed occupation authorities plan to establish a separate Crimean Tatar Cossack military unit", the Mejlis leader said.
