New Supreme Allied Commander takes command in Europe

Curtis Scaparrotti replaces Philip Breedlove 

On May 3, Army General Curtis Scaparrotti assumed command from Air Force General Philip Breedlove.

The change of command ceremony took place in the city of Stuttgart (Germany). It was reported by the U.S. European Command on Twitter.

"Congratulations and welcome aboard to General Curtis Scaparrotti, the new commander of the European Command," said the statement.

Scaparrotti will also be Supreme Allied Commander for Europe. Hei was also congratulated by his predecessor, the previous Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Commander of U.S. European Command Philip Breedlove.

"Congratulations, my friend!", Breedlove wrote on Twitter.

Philip Breedlove has been in charge of NATO forces in Europe since 2013.
