Five people are held hostages in a police station in Yerevan

Armenian police still do not storm the seized police station in Yerevan. One hostage was released at night, and five more people are still held by attackers. Among them are deputies of police chiefs of Armenia and Yerevan.

The police station was stormed at dawn on Sunday, July 17th. Armed men rammed the doors by a car and opened fire. One policeman was killed.

Assailants demand the release of their jailed leader Jirayr Sefilyan, an opposition activist who was arrested for illegal arms trafficking and possession in June, and other political prisoners. They also want the president of Armenia to resign.
