Singer of Crimean Tatar descent says she sang for Ukraine
Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala now has the title of the People's Artist of Ukraine. The title is the highest official honour an entertainer can receive from the Ukrainian government.
Ukraine's President granted Jamala the honour after her victory in Stockholm. Petro Poroshenko thanked the Ukrainian singer for bringing the story of the Crimean Tatar deportation to the world.
The Ukrainian President also added that his family was glued to their television screens during the Eurovision grand final.
Jamala publically expressed her thanks in a facebook post saying although receiving the title is a great honour, her goal was to sing for Ukraine.
