Combined Russian/militant forces continue to fire mortars and artillery

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko came under militant fire as he was inspecting military positions in the so-called Anti-Terrorist Operation zone in eastern part of the country.

This is according to the presidential administration spokesperson for ATO Andriy Lysenko.

"There were several mortar attacks in Zaitseve, Maiorske, Avdiyivka, Opytne, and Vodiane; and in Pisky, the enemy opened fire from cannon artillery. More than 130 mortars and 26 shells were fired on our positions," Lysenko reported at a daily briefing in Kyiv.

"Yesterday, the Ukrainian president visited these positions and, despite the enemy fire, he inspected several defended posts and found the opportunity to talk with the Ukrainian defenders," Lysenko said.

"At a legendary checkpoint 'The Bridge Republic,' located just 800 meters from the Donetsk airport, the president delivered high state awards to the soldiers and also signed a decree on demobilization of those drafted in the fifth wave."
