Poroshenko reveals staggering death toll statistics in the war in eastern Ukraine

2,504 Ukrainian servicemen have been killed in Donbas since the start of Russian-orchestrated conflict  

More than 2,500 Ukrainian servicemen have died over the past two years of the war in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said at the military parade dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence in Kyiv on August 24.

"Looking back at more than two years of war, we can definitely say that the enemy has failed to accomplish any of its strategic tasks, the enemy was not able and to bring Ukraine to its knees. 2,504 our soldiers have died for that," Poroshenko said.

Poroshenko reiterated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are the ones who guarantee the security of the state:

"There is a question; what is the guarantee that all our optimistic plans will not just remain on paper and will not hang in the air? The answer is obvious. Our main guarantor is the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is much more serious than the Budapest Memorandum," he stressed.

Speaking at a daily press briefing in Kyiv, Ukrainian presidential spokesman on the ATO related issues Andriy Lysenko informed that one serviceman was killed and another one was wounded on the front lines in eastern Ukraine.
