Poroshenko says local elections possible in Donbas in 2016

President says necessary security conditions must be provided

Local elections may be held in Donbas in 2016 if the necessary arrangements are provided. That's according to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

Poroshenko said one of the conditions for the elections to be conducted is a stable ceasefire monitored by an armed interntational mission on the contact line between the Ukrainian army and Russian-backed separatist forces, and on the border with Russia. He added only this can be considered as full observance of Minsk agreements.

Poroshenko also said the sanctions against Russia are implemented as a result of its failure to comply with the Minsk accords as to resolving the Donbas situation.
