Ukraine's president reports number of guardsmen killed since the start of war
Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko plans to hold a meeting with heads of military structures concerning the participation of the National Guard's rapid response force in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) in eastern Ukraine.
The head of the state said about this during a visit to the training center of the National Guard of Ukraine in Stare, Kyiv region.
"Despite the fact that the National Guard, according to the law, has other tasks, in the nearest future I will initiate a meeting with Defence Minster (Stepan Poltorak), Chief of Staff (Victor Muzhenko) and National Guard Commander (Yuriy Allerov). We will create the opportunity for this troops to pass a combat test," Poroshenko said.
The president also reported that a total of 183 National Guard servicemen have died in Donbas when defending their country:
"Some 746 soldiers were injured, 183 soldier of the National Guard gave their lives defending the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine, defending our freedom," the president was quoted as saying by Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
According to him, 1,040 National Guard servicemen were awarded state awards for personal bravery.
Earlier head of the ATO press center Oleksandr Motuzianyk said Poroshenko is ready to sign a decree on demobilization of fifth wave's military.
