Vice Chairman of Mejlis released after detention by Russian FSB agents
Mass detentions and searches of Crimean Tatars continue on the Russian-occupied peninsula. The vice chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis was detained on Thursday by Russia's FSB agents.
Ilmi Umerov was taken from his home in Bakhchysarai. He was transported to Simferopol, questioned and later released on condition of not being able to leave Crimea.
This is not the only case of detention following raids on Crimean Tatar homes.
Earlier, the so-called Russian prosecutor Natalia Poklonska claimed to have detained several members of organisations recognised in Russia as extremist.
