Radio Poland: Mass protest and counter-march in Warsaw

Demonstrators march under slogan 'We are and will remain in Europe'

Thousands were taking to the streets in Warsaw on Saturday to protest at sweeping changes introduced by Poland's ruling conservatives, while a mass counter-march voiced opposition to any interference by Brussels in Polish affairs.

Both sides were keen to put on a demonstration of strength amid a bitter political conflict that has divided Poland and attracted international criticism.

Protesters at the anti-government, pro-E.U. march, staged by the Committee for the Defence of Democracy (KOD) and most opposition parties, were demonstrating against what they claim is the violation of democratic and European values by Poland's ruling party.
