EP rapporteur says she will recommend visa cancelation for Ukrainians
Mariya Gabriel, European Parliament rapporteur on visa liberalization for Ukraine, will support European Commission's initiative to abolish visas for Ukrainians presenting her report in the Europarliament on September 5. This is reported by UNIAN news agency.
"I planned to introduce my report before summer, but because of the referendum results in Great Britain, some committee meetings were cancelled and the agenda – delayed. That's why my report will be presented on September 5", the rapporteur explained.
According to Gabriel, her report will be available this summer.
"I received much information from the European Commission and the Ukrainian authorities and I want to thank the Ukrainian party for a perfect cooperation. The signals regarding achieved progress [by Ukraine] are positive", Gabriel said.
"My report will support Commission's initiative and sum up all the information in order to conclude that the European Parliament should actually support visa-free regime with Ukraine", she added.
On July 11 Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, said he was certain the visa-free regime for Ukraine might be introduced in early autumn.
The European Commission officially proposed visa liberalisation for Ukraine on April 20. Kyiv has complied with the requirements for visa-free travel for Ukrainians across Europe.
